The Last True WildernessThe demand for traveling to different or exotic parts of the world has increased a lot in both Europe and the US during the last few years. With its 2500 kilometers long coast line Mozambique can offer beaches, tropical islands and coral reefs that are still more or less untouched by the human. The province of Niassa can take it even one step further. Some people claim that Niassa is The Last True Wilderness.
WildlifeNiassa offers a wilderness with fantastic fauna and flora. Beside the Niassa Reserve there are a few game parks and community reservation areas that offer a lot of game (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, antelopes, etc). Further more it can be mentioned that big herds of African Wild Dog, buffalo and elephants with enormous tusks are common especially in the Reserve.
AccomodationFamous investors, such as Rani Africa, have started to renovate tourist attractions that were destroyed during the civil war. From the early nineties until today the number of tourist visiting Mozambique each year has increased rapidly from 10 000 to more than 150 000 per year. The northern part of the country sees more European tourists, while the southern part attracts a lot of South Africans. Around the Lake Niassa there are several lodges that can offer good accommodation for you.
Niassa on your roundtripFor Niassa there are several opportunities for you as a tourist. You can stay by the Lake Niassa (with large populations of cichlid fish and sandy beaches) and try to feel the emptiness within the wilderness. Or you go with a local guide through the Niassa Reserve (the largest game reserve in Mozambique that offers spectacular scenery and some unique wildlife features that will be an exciting bush experience well off the beaten track). Either you chose to focus on the province or go to Niassa on your way from Zambia or Malawi further on to the coast with the beaches of Pemba. The region offers a lot that has not yet been discovered by most people.
