THE friendship between Zimbabwe and Mozambique should be translated into concrete initiatives that should bring development and economic empowerment to people of the two countries, the chairman of the Zimbabwe-Mozambique Friendship Association, Mr Dave Popatlal, has said.
Mr Popatlal was speaking at Changara in Tete province on Friday at a function held to mark Mozambique's 29th independence anniversary.
Several Zimbabweans from Mudzi district also attended the independence celebrations at the invitation of their counterparts from Changara.
"Our two countries have been working together in different areas of interest and that should continue to happen in all aspects of our people's lives," said Mr Popatlal.
He said that given resources by the governments of the two countries, Zimofa could play a pivotal role in spearheading development especially for the benefit of people at grassroots level.
"We can solve many problems if we work together," he said.
He said Mozambique helped Zimbabwe during its liberation struggle and likewise, Zimbabwe also helped Mozambique during the war of destabilisation which ravaged Mozambique for more than a decade. Thousands of Mozambicans displaced by the war found refuge in neighbouring countries, particularly in Zimbabwe.
Mr Popatlal, a Mozambican now resident in Zimbabwe, praised the Mozambicans for inviting Zimbabweans in important celebrations such as their independence day for them to share their experiences.
"We want to assure you that your gesture is appreciated and will be reciprocated," he said.
