WOMEN in Business (WIB) are in Mozambique on a five-day working visit to explore opportunities in that country and areas in which women from the two countries can tie business relations.
The 13 women who are in that country upon the invitation of the Mozambican Minister of Trade, Mr Carlos Morgado, say the trip, which comes barely a few months after the signing of the joint trade agreement by the two governments, serves as an eye-opener for most women who were facing difficulties in accessing markets in neighbouring countries.
"The purpose of the visit is to exchange ideas and formalise trade and implement new policies which the government has put in place," Ms Dolitta Mpofu, Women in Business president, said.
She said if the bilateral agreement was going to be fruitful, sound and viable business opportunities should be realised through initiatives like this one.
The Mozambican ministry of trade and commerce is said to have seen the capacity and successes of WIB, which saw the business grouping being invited.
Mozambique, which was ravaged by war for many years, is undergoing reconstruction and as a result, vast opportunities for those who are keen to invest in the country abound.
She said it was high time women did business officially and ethically and moved away from the usual stocking of foreign currency that women had been practising because of lack of knowledge.
Most women were afraid of immigration procedures and because they did not understand the documentation, most of them resorted to evading immigration officials.
Women who are into art and craft, tailoring, carving and other works, were likely to clinch deals there and bring orders back home.
It has since emerged that women have the potential of harnessing foreign currency through cross-border activities if the funds are repatriated through proper channels.
