For Massingue, the objective of the government's science, technology and innovation strategy is to establish strategic platforms and programmes so that science and technology may contribute to poverty reduction, economic growth and social and economic well-being.
Speaking at the opening of a workshop on developing partnerships in the area of information technologies, Massingue said the strategy on technology and innovation covers all the major areas of the Mozambican economy.
"To implement that strategy", he said, "the Ministry of Science and Technology relies on the involvement of a variety of partners from the public and the private sectors".
One of the government's initiatives to reach the goals of the strategy, Massingue added, is the establishment of the Mozambican Institute of Information and Communications Technologies (MICTI).
"MICTI is promoting the culture of entrepreneurial innovation in Mozambican society through the Technological and Business Incubator, which has already offered society companies that provide services in the areas of developing Wed applications, marketing and legal services", he said. The Institute was also contributing to research and development through projects oriented to remote parts of the country.
The spokesperson for the workshop, Constantino Sotomane, said the purpose of the meeting was to brief participants on progress this year, and draw up plans for 2007".
Next year, he said, MICTI intends to provide a mid-level computer science course, which in the initial phase will have two classes with 25 students each.
