Mozambique largest treatment programme is changing the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.
The Drug Resource Enhancement against AIDS and Malnutrition (DREAM), funded by the Italian NGO, the Sant'Egidio Community, has claimed that 95 percent of its recipients are still living and enjoying a good quality of life, despite being HIV-positive.
DREAM coordinator Paola Germano recalled that within two or three months after starting treatment, "we witnessed real resurrections" among patients who had otherwise lost all hope and been abandoned by everyone.
"We saw extremely ill men who could no longer walk, prostrated not only by the disease but also by the humiliation of their inability to do anything for their families ... stand up, begin walking again, and regain their dignity. Today, for many of them, their only problem is finding a work," a local news agency, AIM, quoted Germano as saying.
