Mozambique and Mauritius signed on Wednesday cooperation agreements in several areas, with particular emphasis on security and public order.
The agreements include the fight against drug trafficking and the treatment of drug addicts.
Prior to the signing of these documents Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano held official talks with a Mauritian delegation headed by Prime Minister Paul Berenger, who arrived in the morning for a four day visit to the country. Addressing a press conference shortly after the ceremony, Chissano said that these agreements will serve to further guide the cooperation between the two countries.
"Even before these documents our cooperation in various areas has been very good", said Chissano.
He recalled that Mauritius has been cooperating with Mozambique in the sugar industry, livestock, tourism, and other areas. "Tourism is to the forefront", he said.
Chissano stressed that the new agreements will enhance this relationship, expanding it to other areas, particularly information and communication technologies.
