Country Pledges to Host ADB Meeting

The Mozambican government on Friday formally pledged to host the 43rd Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank (ADB) in May 2008.

The documents giving this undertaking were signed in Maputo by the Minister of Planning and Development, Aiuba Cuereneia, and by the general secretary of the ADB, Madibop Toure.

Speaking after the signing, Cuereneia said "the undertaking we have given is that we agree to organize the ADB meeting in 2008, guaranteeing all the logistics, in coordination with the Bank".

Mozambique's responsibilities include ensuring all the necessary accommodation, transport and communications facilities.

"We shall guarantee that people have a secure environment in Mozambique", Cuereneia said. "We are working with all areas of activity to ensure that the Maputo meeting will be very successful".

Modibop Toure described the signing of these documents as an important step in the strategic partnership between Mozambique and the ADB. "Mozambique is a friend and the largest client of the ADB", he said.
