The African Union (AU) Chairperson was speaking at the official opening of the World Economic Forum's 14th African Economic Summit taking place here this week.
"We are in an era where the word 'partnership' is gaining strong significance. All stakeholders, including business leaders, NGOs and social workers need to come together to create a better world," he said.
President Chissano further stressed that although Africa had to formulate its own means of stimulating its economy, leaders had to consider global appeal.
"Nothing can concern us as a continent alone because we are in an age of globalisation. While looking at African solutions, we must do what is appealing to various global partners.
"Of course, this does not mean that we are dependent on their solutions," he explained.
President Thabo Mbeki and several cabinet members, including Finance Minister Trevor Manuel and Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa among others are attending the African Summit.
It is aimed at unlocking economic and business reform in Africa, which is seen as holding back the potential of many African economies.
Twenty-six African nations are attending the three-day event, held under the auspices of the World Economic Forum (WEF), with an estimated 600 delegates taking part in the summit under the theme "engaging business in development".
Speaking on why Mozambique had been chosen as the host, Director for Africa at the WEF Heike Aifeld said the country offered a great platform for the various development issues discussed at the summit in the past.
"Mozambique's resurgence has been driven by private-public sector partnerships and good governance.
"We will be looking at the key success factors which contributed to its development and will also discuss why this was not happening in other countries," he said.
President Chissano said that although the country had come a long way in terms of economic development, there was a number of mistakes made that hampered its earlier growth.
"We will be happy to hear the opinions of observers here. We are willing to make changes where necessary, especially where it is advantageous to our people," he said.
