He was speaking at the ceremony to launch the latest survey by the consultancy company KPMG of the "100 largest companies in Mozambique".
Guebuza challenged the companies who participate in this survey to improve still further their production and productivity. He urged the country's business class to find "creative ways" of serving the public and the country.
The President said that this year the government has introduced a series of measures seeking to improve the business environment, while at the same time ensuring the maintenance of peace and stability.
He stressed the important of interaction between the various stakeholders in the Mozambican economy, warning that "however self-sufficient a company may feel, it is never disconnected from the entire political and social surroundings in which it operates".
Guebuza praised the KPMG initiative, and said its survey would help promote corporate governance, by stimulating transparency in business management and a culture of paying taxes.
As expected, the list of the 100 largest companies is headed by the MOZAL aluminium smelter. The next four places are occupied by HCB (the company that runs the Cahora Bassa dam on the Zambezi), M-Cel (the main provider of cell phone services), the state oil company Petromoc, and the South African petrochemical giant SASOL, which is exploiting the natural gas reserves in Inhambane province.
