The Japanese government has approved funding of about 83,000 US dollars for a professional education project in Mozambique, to be implemented by the Maputo General Union of Cooperatives (UGC).
According to a note from the Japanese embassy received by AIM on Tuesday, the project involves the acquisition of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration equipment. It will directly benefit about 200 students a year, and indirectly more than 5,000 members of the UGC.
The embassy note described this as a further contribution by the government of Japan to help Mozambique reduce unemployment, through providing better learning conditions for students, most of whom are unemployed young people.
With this grant, Japanese aid to the education sector in Mozambique since 2000 has reached about 1.42 million dollars, says the note.
